A brick and tile holiday house awaits at Ruakaka 25 minutes south of Whangarei, New Zealand. Facing a grass reserve to pohutakawas, natives trees and pines the house has everything for a great holiday. The large open lounge dinnette has plenty of space for a family to relax anytime they are not participating in any of the local activities. Play patonque on the lawn or lounge in the sun and the listen to the bird songs as you read. Ruakaka means “two parrots” in Maori.. There are no kaka (parrots) now, but just a leisurely walk away is the mouth of the Ruakaka River, a protected sanctuary for a wide range of sea and native birds. A 3 minute stroll through the reserve from the house and the wide beach can often be yours alone.
Au natural? Then Uretiti across the river is the spot for sun worshippers. Also handy is a spectacular panoramic 18 hole golf course, Waipu gloworm cave exploration,Whangarei Harbour a mecca for fish or cruising, Marsden Refinery visitors display, Bream Bay Club, race course, stables and more. The Ruakaka Shopping Centre with supermarket, prize winning butcher, book & Lotto shop, chemist, restaurant, takeaway, hairdresser, medical facilities, vet and tavern/bistro will meet most your needs Whangarei tourist sites, harbour side cafes, museums and botanical gardens are 25 minutes away and a haven if one seeks retail therapy. Major chains and niche shops cater for all.
